Job description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Overview

In a home-like environment and working without general supervision, the Occupational Therapist-Long-Term Care assesses, plans, provides and evaluates the clinical occupational therapy program for residents to maximize their wellness and mobility. Supervises designated staff. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, educates other health professionals and residents in various aspects of occupational therapy related to resident care.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from a recognized university program in Occupational Therapy. Current licensure in a practicing category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as an Occupational Therapist;
  • Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT); and
  • Knowledge of current Occupational standards, modalities and scope of practice and three (3) years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, families, staff and others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Occupational ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to demonstrate and utilize sound judgment, tact, empathy and initiative.
  • Ability to demonstrate good observation and assessment skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical competence congruent with service area-specific needs.
