Overview

Castanet has an immediate opening for a news director in the beautiful Okanagan Valley city of Vernon, B.C.

We are seeking an experienced journalist with the ability to lead local news coverage in the North Okanagan.

You will produce and edit written stories that reflect life in the B.C. Interior.

Castanet News is one of the most-read news sites in Western Canada, with an audience of more than 600,000 unique visitors a week and nine million page views.

You will be the face of Castanet in Vernon and will also helm coverage of city council.

Experience in video editing is an asset, but training is provided.

You will manage another reporter in the newsroom and coordinate with the broader Castanet network of seven newsrooms.

Your work week will run Monday to Friday, but flexibility during major news events is required.

Qualifications
  • Ability to produce multiple tightly written, informative stories a day.
  • Can write and edit to Canadian Press style.
  • Connected to the community with a knowledge of current issues and a network of contacts in the B.C. Interior.
  • Must be social media and computer savvy.
  • Valid driver\'s licence and vehicle.
  • Ability to learn video shooting and editing.
