Job summary

A leading steel production company in Whitby is seeking a registered Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) apprentice. You will work in a heavy manufacturing environment, responsible for mechanical equipment maintenance and repairs. The ideal candidate has mechanical aptitude, strong communication skills, and is able to work rotating shifts. Qualifications

What You Have
  • Must be registered in an approved Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) – A apprenticeship program with Skilled Trades Ontario AND have passed both Level and Level of in-school training OR have a minimum of hours of documented apprenticeship employment experience.
  • Be able to work in all areas in the plant and complete the Apprentice Rotation.
  • Be able to work shift rotation (days / nights) as outlined in the Apprentice Training Schedule.
  • Have experience in a heavy manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude, with exposure to Bearings, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Lubrication, Rotating Equipment.
  • Strong communication and work ethic, ability to work in a team and with other trades
Additional Information
  • Background, education, and criminal record checks will be performed.
  • All successful candidates must pass a post-offer medical and ergonomic assessment.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts .
Main Responsibilities
  • Responsible for working safely in accordance with Company safety policies and procedures.
  • Work under the guidance of plant Supervisors and Journeyman skilled trades.
  • Work toward completing hours for all competency skill sets as defined by Skilled Trades Ontario.
  • Inspect, install, repair, replace, adjust mechanical equipment in the plant.
  • Service the mechanical aspects of pumps, motors, cranes, and hydraulic / pneumatic systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance of production machinery to optimize machine efficiencies and equipment reliability.
  • Apply lubricants used in the preventative maintenance of machinery and equipment.
  • Receive instructions, prints, and work orders, covering scheduled and emergency repairs, installation, and inspection work.
  • Maintain specified records of work performed, details of repairs, and materials usage on computerized maintenance management software (CMMS), work orders, logbooks, and checklists.
  • Perform rounds and checks machinery condition using checklists or digital tools to identify abnormalities and ensure that machine functions are operating within the normal specifications.
  • Operate power driven mobile equipment and ordinary crane hooking.
