Overview

The Mental Health Therapist 1 – Mental Health and Addictions works with clients with mental health and addictions challenges. This position is part of a multi-disciplinary Mental Health and Addictions team offering a range of interventions from abstinence to harm reduction strategies. This is a case management position providing care to individuals with Substance Use Disorders (SUD), in a clinic, outreach or community setting.

The Mental Health Therapist 1 works with the client and the Mental Health and Addictions team to develop and implement appropriate holistic person-centered approach to mental health care and recovery plans to meet the client’s needs.

Responsibilities and Work Environment

Responsibilities are aligned with the position description and may include providing case management and delivering interventions within a clinic, outreach or community setting as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications
  • Diploma/Certificate in Nursing; Recreation; Social Services; Addictions or Degree other than OT or Social Work
  • Experience working in mental health and addictions
  • Must be registered and be a member in good standing with their College and Professional Association or willing to obtain within 30 months of starting
  • Ability to provide case management and knowledge of community resources is required
  • Knowledge of suicide intervention and assessment
  • Understanding of the stages of change as it pertains to recovery
  • Familiarity with the various treatment modalities
  • Valid Class G driver’s license and Clear driver’s abstract, with access to own vehicle for use at work
  • Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Screening Check
  • Reliable attendance record
  • Willing to obtain WHMIS upon starting
  • Demonstrates knowledge and appreciation of First Nations Culture
  • Ability to communicate in Ojibway or Cree is considered an asset
  • Ability to function independently and have good personal integrity
  • Demonstrates ability to work well with others preferably as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Awareness of, and maintains good professional boundaries
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Non-judgmental approach
  • Non-violent Crisis intervention Certification or willing to obtain
  • Willing to obtain First Aid/CPR
