Job details

Mechanical Designer — part of supporting manufacturing operations by designing and specifying mechanical assemblies and equipment. This role involves managing large capital projects from concept through procurement, installation, and start-up, while also providing technical support to help the plant achieve productivity and quality objectives. Contributes to pre-studies to identify effective solutions and oversees the full lifecycle of mechanical design projects in an industrial environment.

What you will do
  • Develop detailed mechanical design for process equipment.
  • Provide technical expertise in design, maintenance, modification and installation of equipment and machinery in the manufacturing process, including technical assistance for problem solving analysis.
  • Develop detailed mechanical design packages, including the definition of functional specifications and providing estimates and technical schedules for all phases of process equipment addition, replacement or upgrade.
  • Collaborate with all levels of operations personnel and internal company support groups to accomplish objectives, and provide contract engineering management and direction when needed.
  • Participate in assigned major capital projects and/or modifications from start to finish, including equipment reception, commissioning, and acceptance.
What you will bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Experience in mechanical design of multi-part assemblies and exposure to pneumatic control systems.
  • SolidWorks 3D experience; AutoCAD experience also beneficial.
  • Previous industrial mechanical design experience, including design expertise in theory, operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Experience with mechanical design standards; background in strength of materials and material selection, including welding procedure knowledge.
  • Experience in project team leadership or project management.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to develop positive relationships with internal plant customers; ability to set and achieve goals with minimum supervision; solid teamwork, interpersonal, leadership and planning skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality in dealings with outside contractors and equipment suppliers.
  • Ability to communicate with French counterparts on technical issues is an additional asset, but not a requirement.
