Expertise You Bring
- University degree (bachelor’s degree), Project Management education or equivalent work experience.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified Scrum Master (CSM)
- Project Management Experience in the financial industry.
- Strong experience and demonstrated ability to organize and monitor complex programs / projects.
- Experience with cross-functional, cross-hierarchy work, including communication and relationship management.
Responsibilities
The Project Governance Office (PGO) manages the portfolio of projects for Fidelity Investments Canada (FIC), focusing on prioritization efforts to meet FIC’s regulatory obligations and strategic business development, and ensure adequate capacity planning for IT and Business resources. PGO applies Project Managers’ expertise to oversee and monitor projects in a fast-paced environment from initiation to implementation and closeout, ensuring time to market timelines and disciplined adherence to projects’ business objectives, budget and risk controls. The PGO is also responsible for the Post Implementation Assessment and monitoring benefits realization of initiatives within the organization.
- Establishes structured and proactively managed portfolio of projects across various FIC Divisions.
- Collaborates with business leads to plan initiation of projects, including estimation, timing and resourcing of prioritized initiatives.
- Assigns projects to individual project managers, proactively monitors portfolio activities and support team members in the successful execution of their projects.
- Leads continuous enhancements of project governance and ensures that project management standards, processes and procedures are adhered to.
- Collaborates with all internal business and technology partners, providing adequate communication, transparency and reporting on PGO portfolio of projects for ITEC.
- Manages complex initiatives, including possible delegation of project workstreams to other project managers or business leads.
- Leads project team(s) in a matrix environment, clarifying roles & responsibilities, providing individual direction and feedback and ensuring adequate project governance, communication and reporting are in place.
- Utilizes variety of program management techniques to manage interrelated projects for a specific functional department, service unit or line of business to provide consistent project management expertise across a group of initiatives, coordinate inter-project and intra-project dependencies and resolve project and program issues.
- Maintains focus on quality of delivery, cost, scope and timelines, providing transparent reporting on progress and timely escalation of risks and issues to project sponsors and business stakeholders.
- Proactively works on proposing solutions to project goals and resolution of issues, and recommends appropriate project delivery approach, including agile, waterfall, or a combination of both.
- Manages 3rd party vendor involvement where required in project execution and delivery.
- Maintains active collaboration with Executive Sponsors and Business Leads to understand strategic objectives and coordinates cross-departmental communication of priorities.
- Prepares effective portfolio communications and presentations for FIC Senior Executives Team and / or Executive Steering Committees members, where appropriate.
- Establishes strong relationships with Fidelity business and technology partners, including FIL and FMR.
- Manages expectations and influences project-related business decisions.
- Closely work with IS Executive Team and IS Managers to ensure continuous alignment with advancements in IT tools and processes, and adoption of emerging technologies.
- Directly manage a team of project managers, providing leadership, guidance and support of the team’s objectives and individual personal development goals.
- Communicate overall business objectives to project managers and conduct annual goal setting and performance reviews.
- Assign projects within the PGO portfolio of projects, clearly defining deliverables and performance expectations.
- Monitors execution of assigned responsibilities and provide immediate feedback where necessary to facilitate the adjustment of project plans and delivery timelines.
- Conducts regular one on ones, formal and informal coaching sessions with project managers and provide input for future career growth opportunities and goals.
- Leads adoption of new project management methodologies / tools and support relevant team training.
