Join Us as a Legal Counsel, Product Director

Tokio Marine Canada (TMCan) is a Canadian early-stage entrepreneurial commercial P&C insurer based in Toronto. The Opportunity

We’re looking for a skilled Legal Counsel and Product Developer to provide legal expertise and drive development of policy wordings and endorsements.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • General legal duties and support for all of the business units and functional support units, including legal review of agreements and contracts.
  • Draft documents such as NDAs, DUAs agreements and other miscellaneous contract requirements
  • Product development – drafting and reviewing a wide variety of policy wordings, across all lines of business
  • Providing legal review of new/existing products
  • Working with outside counsel, as needed on product development
Who You Are

You’ll be providing legal advice to the business and functional units, including reviewing and drafting contracts and agreements as well as develop various insurance wordings for various business units.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as in-house counsel at an insurer, or practicing as an associate at a law firm involved in insurance related work;
  • Experience reviewing and drafting contracts and providing legal advice to various stakeholders;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Regulatory experience with OSFI and provincial insurance regulators preferred but not required;
  • Experience with insurance products review and drafting is preferred;
  • The ability to work closely and partner with different underwriting lines of business and functional units;
  • A high level of organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • A proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, driving for results;
  • Thought leadership and can innovate solutions quickly;
  • Experience working closely with others in an environment of cross-collaboration;
  • The ability to thrive in a changing environment and be comfortable with ambiguity;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, and Outlook).
  • Minimum Education level required – LL.B, or J.D. – Law Degree.

Work Model and Recruitment Notice

We work in a hybrid model, and you should expect to split your time between working in the office and working remotely, with flexibility based on the role and the business needs. We currently have an office in downtown Toronto and will eventually be establishing offices in other provinces. Should you currently work in a province where we do not have an office, you will remain remote until such time as we establish an office.
