Description

Sinai Health (SH), University Health Network (UHN) and Women’s College Hospital (WCH) are seeking applicant(s) for a full‑time active staff academic anesthesiologist appointment at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, or Women’s College Hospitals in Toronto. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto. The start date will be based on a mutually agreed upon timeframe.

The successful candidate will provide anesthetic care throughout the surgical and obstetric programs, including supervision and teaching of students, residents, and fellows. On‑call services will be provided in rotation. Participation in formal in‑house and University teaching programs, as well as hospital administrative duties will be expected. Academic opportunities for research and teaching are available. Protected time is awarded according to a merit‑based system. The incumbent will have major clinical responsibilities and, in addition to their own academic activities, will facilitate the research, teaching, and education by others. Teaching may be done concurrently with clinical care and/or in organized educational programs.

The successful candidate must have a medical degree, postgraduate fellowship training, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Anesthesia (or equivalent), and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The successful candidate must have proven clinical skills at a high level, evidence of demonstrated excellence in research and/or education and a commitment to teaching students, residents, and fellows.

Mount Sinai (442 beds) is an acute care hospital and home to the largest high‑risk obstetric center in Canada. Surgical services include general surgery, gynecology, otolaryngology, urology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, dentistry, orthopedics, and ophthalmology. All surgical programs have significant oncology components. Opportunities for practice in acute and chronic pain are also available.

The Toronto General (406 beds) and Toronto Western Hospitals (272 beds) are part of the University Health Network and are tertiary/quaternary care centres. Toronto General is a world‑renowned cardiovascular and transplant centre and is a referral centre for complex oncology surgery. Toronto Western is one of Canada’s premier neuroscience centres and is home to the Krembil Brain Institute, the Donald K. Johnson Eye Institute, and the Schroeder Arthritis Institute. Toronto Western also has an internationally recognised regional anesthesia and chronic pain program.

Women’s College Hospital is an independent ambulatory care hospital in Ontario with a primary focus on women’s health. As a teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, WCH supports research in women’s health and will lead the way in training health‑care providers within an ambulatory setting. It is also home to Toronto Academic Pain Medicine Institute (TAPMI), which is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary academic pain program serving as the hub for chronic pain care in Toronto.

At all of our base hospitals, we are closely aligned with Surgery and Intensive Care programmes, providing clinical, educational, and administrative services in all related areas. We are also well integrated with our hospitals’ academic mission and have one of the most productive academic anesthesia departments in the world.

Compensation will depend on the amount of clinical work performed and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and within the usual range for an anesthesiologist in the Province of Ontario ($300,000‑500,000 per annum).
