Job summary

A clinical laboratory in Edmonton is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant I to ensure high quality service by handling and testing specimens. The ideal candidate will have completed an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program and possess experience with automated urinalysis systems. This role requires efficient laboratory functions from procurement to reporting results.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
  • Experience working with an automated urinalysis system, including both macroscopic and microscopic analysis, within the last 24 months.
  • Experience preparing samples for loading on instrumentation is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality service to clients by handling, processing, dispatching, and testing specimens.
  • Perform procedures and reporting results from laboratory tests.

Overview

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications :

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications :

  • Experience working with an automated urinalysis system, including both macroscopic and microscopic analysis, within the past 24 months — or as a student with clinical training as part of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience preparing samples for loading on instrumentation is an asset.
  • Experience performing small equipment maintenance is an asset.
  • Experience with Inventory Management is an asset.
