Qualifications

Overview

GEI Consultants is seeking a Junior / Intermediate Civil Engineer (Water & Wastewater) to join our Guelph, Ontario office. This role will support the planning, design, and delivery of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects serving communities across Guelph and Southwestern Ontario.

This position offers the opportunity to work on technically meaningful projects that protect public health, support sustainable growth, and enhance the resilience of municipal infrastructure. You will collaborate with experienced professionals in a multidisciplinary environment while continuing to build your technical and project delivery expertise within an employee-owned consulting firm.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the planning and design of municipal water distribution and wastewater collection systems, including watermains, sanitary sewers, forcemains, pumping stations, and related linear infrastructure.
  • Support preparation of engineering calculations, drawings, technical memoranda, and design reports.
  • Apply applicable design standards and guidelines, including MECP and municipal standards.
  • Assist with regulatory approvals and coordination with agencies such as conservation authorities and MECP.
  • Support construction administration activities, including site reviews and contract administration tasks.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including land development, infrastructure planning, and environmental professionals.
  • Assist with preparation of cost estimates, tender packages, and project documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Eligible for registration, or registered, as an EIT or P.Eng. with Professional Engineers Ontario.
  • Junior level: 1–4 years of relevant experience; Intermediate level: 5–8 years of relevant experience in municipal water and wastewater engineering.
  • Experience or academic background in water and wastewater infrastructure design is an asset.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (Civil 3D, MicroStation) and/or GIS is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Motivation to learn, grow technically, and contribute to team success.
