CIMA+ continues to grow and expand its Earth and Environment team in Southern Ontario. Our Natural Environment Team is seeking an Aquatic Ecologist to support projects in Southern Ontario. The successful candidate will join our team of biologists, environmental professionals, and field technicians, contributing expertise in field programs and natural heritage reporting for diverse sectors including energy, waterpower, transportation, and land development for both public and private clients.

This position offers a hybrid work model with flexible hours, remote work options, and access to one of our offices located across the GTA (Kitchener, Guelph, Burlington, Mississauga, Spadina-Fort York, or Bowmanville). This role will focus on aquatic habitat assessments in support of infrastructure development. The aquatic information would be incorporated into environmental impact studies and used as part of permit applications. Our current field needs are for an ecologist who can demonstrate aptitude with aquatic habitats and fish identification. There is room for professional growth and advancement, including opportunities to develop project and team management skills.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Conduct aquatic habitat assessments, fish community inventories, and support additional environmental surveys.
  • Provide the aquatic scope of impacts to reports, ecological studies, and permit applications.
  • Develop appropriate avoidance and mitigation measures.
  • Complete requests for authorizations and permits under the Endangered Species Act, Fisheries Act, and Species at Risk Act.
Qualifications
  • Relevant degree or diploma such as Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or additional years of experience.
  • Educational or practical experience with aquatic life and the environment, preferably from a consulting perspective.
  • Interest in understanding aquatic legislations and policies.
  • Team player and ability to work with a diverse team across the province.
