Intermediate Civil / Transportation Designer

Edmonton, Alberta

CAP Engineering is currently seeking an Intermediate Civil / Transportation Designer, working out of our Edmonton office. The successful candidate will support our senior engineers in the design and drafting of various highway and civil projects in Alberta, Yukon and Newfoundland. Current projects include rural highway rehabilitation, roundabout design, access and site grading of solar farms, and wildlife exclusion fencing. While qualifications are an asset, we seek an undeterred drive and eagerness to learn above all else.

Responsibilities

You’ll support the planning, design, and delivery of transportation and civil projects and be responsible for :

  • Conducting engineering analysis and detailed design for roadway / civil grading projects
  • Processing and analyzing survey data
  • Preparing engineering designs, drawings and as-builts using Civil 3D
  • Calculating design quantities and preparing cost estimates
  • Drafting technical reports, tender documents, and specifications
  • Providing engineering support to our field teams during construction
  • Assisting with project management to meet quality, budget, and schedule goals
  • Helping to prepare business proposals
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships through industry events, golf days, curling bonspiels, and other networking opportunities
  • Contributing ideas to improve work processes and project outcomes

Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of roadway design
  • Education / Registration: Civil Engineer (P.Eng.) or immediately eligible for APEGA registration OR
  • Civil Engineering Technologist (CET) or eligible for ASET registration
  • Proficient with Civil 3D, Microsoft Word & Excel
  • Familiarity with Alberta Transportation or TAC Design Guidelines
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract
  • Field inspection or survey experience is considered an asset
