Overview
The Human Resources Director (HRD) will play a crucial role in implementing HR strategies that align with our business goals. Responsible for overseeing site employee relations, recruitment, training, policy compliance, and more they will also move the site recruitment process, attendance and leave management, and benefits functions forward to support corporate and departmental objectives.
Responsibilities
- Human Resources
- Supports implementation of Corporate Human Resources policies, procedures, strategies and initiatives as aligned with the overall Human Resources (“HR”) business strategy.
- Promotes adherence to all Corporate policies and procedures, including Safety, HACCP/CFIA regulations and HR best practices at all times.
- Facilities site training and development plans
- Complies with federal, provincial and local legal requirements by keeping current with existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management on needed actions.
- Facilitates local site events with local Human Resources Generalists ("HRG").
- Leadership
- Advises Site Managers, Supervisors on questions related to compliance, policy, Company initiatives and annual strategies.
- Leads and manages the team of Human Resources Generalists, provides training and support to improve team performance and productivity.
- Conducts annual performance reviews.
- Talent, Employee Relations and Lifecycle
- Ensures the Human Resources Generalists build and maintain employee files, fielding employee queries regarding benefits and payroll ensuring confidentiality is strictly maintained.
- Tracks and manages short-term and long-term and consolidates non-occupational leaves.
- Ensures absence and time management tracking is consistently applied and reviewed, including tracking probationary periods, immigration document processing, benefits and review dates, and reports as required.
- Manages return to work plans for non-occupational salaried leaves.
- Responsible for full cycle recruitment, in alignment with the Company recruitment strategy identifies approaches for attracting new talent and positioning within the market with the recruitment specialist.
- Labour Relations
- Bridges labour relations by addressing questions, concerns, grievances, or other issues and provides site guidance and support to managers and employees on HR-related matters.
- Addresses employee requests regarding human resources and policy and collective bargaining agreement, related issues, rules, and regulations.
- Ensures all employee related matters are addressed.
- Leads investigations and next steps with local site HGRs.
- Tracks and reports on pending items and mitigates risks through remedy or reporting up.
- Reporting
- Tracks weekly recruitment and pending items.
- Reports on employee engagement, attendance, turnover performance and/or breach issues.
- Tracks the employee lifecycle process, conducts regular salaried exit interviews, etc.
- Monitors’ adherence to internal policies and legal standards, reports further matters as required.
- Raises issues proactively, identifies practical solutions and helps develop and implement appropriate action plans.

Position Requirements & Skills
- +3 years proven working experience as an HRD in a union environment.
- +8 or more years of management experience, strong supervisory skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Knowledge of HRIS
- Strong knowledge of labour laws and regulations.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Demonstrated experience in process improvement initiatives.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
- Experience in recruiting and managing employee relations.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting and standing for extended periods of time.
- Typically works Monday to Friday with some weekend requirements.
