Position Title: Human Resources (HR) Specialist

Location: Waterloo or Sarnia, Ontario

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Reporting To: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Travel: Required between offices in Waterloo and Sarnia

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Specialist (5+ years) who will play a vital role in supporting both of our locations. This role is about more than policies and processes—it's about people. The successful candidate will be a safe place for employees, an empowering partner for managers, and a driver of efficient, effective HR practices.

You will oversee recruitment, performance management, compensation, and employee relations while ensuring that HR serves as both a strategic partner and a trusted resource. Strong communication, openness, and efficiency are essential, as is the ability to foster a culture where people feel heard, supported, and empowered. Responsibilities
Recruitment & Talent Management
  • Lead end-to-end recruitment, including job postings, screening, interviews, and offers
  • Partner with managers to design effective hiring strategies
  • Oversee relationships with recruiting partners and manage recruitment budgets
  • Manage and grow the Co-op Hiring program
Performance Management
  • Lead the annual performance review process
  • Support managers in delivering meaningful feedback and addressing performance challenges
  • Maintain records and ensure compliance with HR best practices and legal requirements
Compensation & Benefits
  • Oversee annual compensation reviews to ensure competitive practices
  • Recommend and administer salary adjustments and merit increases
  • Act as the liaison with benefits providers, ensuring smooth employee experience
HR Policies & Employee Relations
  • Maintain and optimize HR processes, policies, and procedures
  • Support employees with questions, concerns, or conflicts, providing a safe, trusted space
  • Investigate and resolve workplace issues with professionalism and fairness
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation and regulations
  • Provide accurate HR reporting and support payroll processes
Required Qualifications & Competencies
  • 5+ years of HR experience across recruitment, performance management, compensation, and employee relations
  • HR certification (CHRP / CHRL or equivalent) preferred
  • Proven track record of efficient, solution-focused HR leadership
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian employment legislation
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills at all levels
  • A natural connector who fosters camaraderie across multiple offices
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving start-up environment
  • High level of discretion, integrity, and professionalism
  • Demonstrated ability to travel between offices as required
  • Occasional weekend as required
The Package
  • Annual Salary: $70,000 – $75,000
