Qualifications

Job Title: HR Manager

Location: Markham, ON (In person + regular site visits)

Reports directly to: CEO

Leadership: HR & Admin Team

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Human Resource Manager to lead and manage all HR functions. This is a senior leadership role where the HR Manager will be responsible for developing HR strategies, overseeing employee relations, operational excellence, ensuring legal compliance and supporting organizational growth through effective people management.

As a trusted leader, you will shape the day‑to‑day employee relations and cultivate a cohesive, motivated workforce. Additionally, you will serve as the primary HR interface for all operational external partners, building strategic relationships that enhance JD’s reputation and operational success. Your leadership will be pivotal in aligning HR and Administration with JD Development Group’s growth ambitions, inspiring your team, and delivering measurable impact across the company.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership of HR & Administration Team
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the HR & Admin team
  • Set team priorities, workflows, and performance goals
  • Implement and manage HR policies and procedures
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding and retention strategies
  • Manage employee relations, performance management and disciplinary processes
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, regulations and company policies
  • Implement and oversee site safety programs in compliance with regulations
Internal HR & Employee Relations
  • Full employee lifecycle ownership: contracts, onboarding, performance management, discipline, offboarding
  • Primary escalation points for all employee relations issues and conflict resolution
  • Maintain HRIS, policies, employee group benefits, payroll updates, WSIB, full Ontario compliance
  • Drive engagement, recognition, culture initiatives, and annual reviews
  • Implement and oversee site safety programs in compliance with regulations; ensure safety training and certification; maintain safety documentation, reports and compliance records; report performance to leadership
External Relations & Consultant Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for external consultants, advisors and service providers, including dealings with the Union
  • Oversee consultant onboarding and compliance (insurance, WSIB and safety certificate as applicable)
  • Coordinate contracts, scope of work and timelines with consultants
  • Ensure consultant services align with organizational goals, policies and compliance requirements
  • Maintain accurate records of consultant agreements and communications and report to leadership
Qualifications
  • 5-6 years HR experience preferred. Experience in real estate development / construction is definitely a bonus.
  • Strong leadership of an HR/admin team
  • Hands‑on experience with site safety programs
  • Expert knowledge of Ontario ESA, OHSA, WSIB, AODA
  • Must demonstrate effective leadership, exercise good judgement in complex situations and always uphold strict confidentiality
  • Open‑minded, strong people and communication skills
  • CHRP/CHRL strongly preferred
  • Valid Ontario G driver’s licence + own vehicle (mileage reimbursed)
