Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator

We are looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to work in the Saskatoon area. This position supports Firma Contracting’s work in underground/ water and sewer projects in the Saskatoon region.

Responsibilities:

  • Installation of underground utilities in close proximity to existing utilities and in existing residential / commercial areas
  • Work closely with pipe crews to install pipe - ensuring a high level of safety, communication and quality
  • Adherence to legislation for excavation and trenching requirements
  • Lower materials to pipe crews using proper rigging mechanisms and procedures
  • Operate equipment in close proximity to ground personnel and other equipment
  • Ensure work is always done safely, to the highest quality standard while maintaining strong production
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program
  • Daily equipment inspections and maintenance
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner with honesty and integrity
  • Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, loaders and graders to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, gravel or other materials during construction and related activities
  • Operate bulldozers or other heavy equipment to clear brush and stumps prior to logging activities and to build roads at logging and surface mining sites
  • Operate heavy equipment with pile driver head to drive piling into earth to provide support for buildings, bridges or other structures
  • Operate heavy dredging equipment to deepen waterways or reclaim earth fill
  • Operate heavy paving and surfacing equipment to lay, spread or compact concrete, asphalt and other surface materials during highway and road construction
  • Operate power shovels to excavate rock, ore or other materials from open-pit mines, strip mines, quarries or construction pits
  • Operate heavy equipment to move, load and unload cargo
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment and clean, lubricate and refill equipment

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience as one or all of the following: Mainline Hoe Operator / Side Hoe Operator / Dozer Operator / Wheel Loader Operator
  • Underground utility rehabilitation / replacement experience is an asset
  • Exceptionally safety conscious
  • Able to work independently and follow instruction from the superintendent / foreman
  • Ability to operate other equipment is an asset
  • Strong communication skills

Required Certifications:

  • CSTS 2020
  • WHMIS 2015
  • Ground Disturbance Level 2

Physical Demands: Handling material manually, standing, bending or twisting the body, making repetitive motions.

Work Environment: in an eclosed vehicle or equipment, standard safety equipment, dangerous chemical substances, vibration, hazardous equipment, machinery, tools, sound and noise, outside, exposed to weather, extreme temperatures, in an open vehicle or equipment.
