The Grant Facilitator is an important role within the Michael Smith Laboratories who will increase research capacity by assisting faculty members to maximize their success with external research funding agencies and internal research funding sources. This position is responsible for identifying, developing, preparing, and coordinating research grant applications, letters of intent, background documentation, research program rationales, ethics submissions, and other documents for various research funding agencies. Successful proposals will require management and overall coordination of grant activities including budget forecasts, agency reporting, team meetings, and ensuring faculty members are aware of deliverable. This position requires a high level of expertise and knowledge in molecular biology and genomics.
Reports directly to the Director of the Michael Smith Laboratories, and will liaise with project manager teams at the BC Cancer Research Institute and Life Science Institute. They will join a dedicated team of department staff who support the research success of 25+ faculty members. Communicates directly with co-investigators, lab managers, research associates, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, consultants, collaborators, and external funding agencies to obtain information and documents for grant applications and progress reports.
Work is carried out under the portfolio of the Director; priorities and completion of tasks are determined accordingly. Resolution of errors is the responsibility of the Grant Facilitator in coordination with the Director. Inaccurate work may result in a loss of research funding dollars. Delays in work completion may hinder research project timelines. Confidential material regarding human resources must be treated with great tact and discretion.
Poor judgement, errors in preparing documents, or inappropriate management of confidential information could have an adverse effect on the faculty members, department and/or University.
Works independently with considerable latitude. The Grant Facilitator is expected to use a high level of initiative. Must possess a considerable amount of judgement in managing workload demands in order to meet multiple deadlines. Must exercise judgment in duties and responsibilities and in identifying unusual matters that require consultation, further investigation, etc. before taking action.

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
