Job summary

A community organization in Whycocomagh is seeking casual Gift Shop Associates to join their team at the Amkwesowa’q Kisitutitl Gift Shop. Successful candidates will greet and assist customers, operate the cash register, and maintain displays of authentic Mi’kmaw-made art and crafts. Location: Amkwesowa’q Kisitutitl Gift Shop

Position: Gift Shop Associate

Position Type: Casual

We’koqma’q First Nation is preparing to open the Amkwesowa’q Kisitutitl Gift Shop – a space dedicated to showcasing and selling authentic Mi’kmaw-made art, crafts, and cultural products. We are seeking friendly, responsible, and community‑minded individuals to join our team as casual Gift Shop Associates.

Responsibilities include:

  • Greeting and assisting customers in a welcoming and respectful manner
  • Operating the cash register and point‑of‑sale (POS) system accurately
  • Stocking shelves, organizing inventory, and maintaining clean displays
  • Assisting with restocking and unpacking shipments
  • Answering questions about products and artists
  • Supporting cultural events and product launches as needed
  • Ensuring a clean, safe, and organized retail environment

We are looking for people who:

  • Are dependable, punctual, and motivated to work in a team
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Are respectful and supportive of Mi’kmaw culture and community
  • Have basic computer and retail skills (training will be provided)
  • Can work flexible hours, including weekends or evenings during events

Additional Assets:

  • Knowledge of Mi’kmaw culture, crafts, or language
  • Previous experience in customer service or retail
  • Ability to lift and move inventory items
