Overview

Our client, WestJet, is seeking a detail-oriented Fuel Accountant (Intermediate) to support their dynamic Finance team. This contract opportunity is ideal for a driven professional with strong analytical abilities, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to excellence. The successful candidate will focus on day-to-day operational accounting with an emphasis on processing, fuel inventory, and month-end reporting.

This role is structured as a hybrid position located in Calgary, AB, offering an opportunity to be part of a high-performing team during a period of transition.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a high volume of fuel-related invoices and emails.
  • Ensure timely resolution of invoice discrepancies and inclusion of significant-dollar items for month-end closing.
  • Operate within a multi-company and multi-currency environment (CAD, USD, Euro, GBP).
  • Reconcile vendor statements, review purchase orders, verify tax and foreign exchange calculations.
  • Support invoice payment processes to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
  • Collaborate on ad-hoc financial analysis, reporting, and cross-team projects.
  • Document and refine key accounting processes.
  • Uphold compliance with internal control frameworks and C-SOX requirements.
Qualifications

Must-Have Requirements :

  • Post-secondary education and / or certification in Accounting or Finance.
  • 2–3 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Adaptability in a high-volume, fast-changing environment.
  • Strong sense of confidentiality and professionalism.

Nice-to-Haves :

  • Experience with JD Edwards ERP system.
  • Familiarity with Hyperion or similar financial reporting tools.
