Focused on addressing the prevalent issue of mental health distress among youth, particularly those systematically excluded from mental health dialogue and action, we adapt programming to meet the needs of diverse youth demographics and communities across Canada. Our approach centers on upstream prevention of mental distress and the promotion of mental well-being.

As our Director People & Culture (14-month contract) you’ll play a key role in leading the people strategy that supports our mission. This role drives organizational development, staff engagement and a values-aligned culture. Reporting to: VP Development Marketing & Operations

Location: Toronto / Hybrid

Salary: $100000-$110000

Status: Full-Time 14-Month Contract (Maternity Leave Coverage)

About You

  • A collaborative and values-driven leader with a deep understanding of inclusive workplace practices.
  • Comfortable advising senior leadership, building people-first systems and supporting teams through change.
  • Skilled in coaching, internal communication and creating an engaged, connected hybrid workforce.
  • Experienced in leading people functions across the full HR lifecycle with strong knowledge of Canadian employment legislation.

Your Impact

The Director People & Culture leads the People function and is responsible for setting and executing HR strategy across the organization. This role fosters an inclusive and engaging culture while ensuring that people practices align with mission and operational needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Organizational Development (35%)

  • Lead the development and execution of HR strategies and programs that align with organizational priorities.
  • Partner with senior leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, team development and change management.
  • Collaborate with Finance to support staffing budgets and forecasting.
  • Integrate equity principles into policies, practices and decision-making.
  • Assess and enhance HR programs to support a responsive people-centered experience in a hybrid environment.

Employee Experience, Engagement & Leadership Development (30%)

  • Lead initiatives to strengthen leadership capabilities, employee engagement, internal communications and staff recognition.
  • Support learning and development initiatives including the delivery of training and professional growth opportunities.
  • Supervise and mentor the People Operations Coordinator.

HR Operations & Compliance (20%)

  • Oversee day-to-day HR operations including onboarding, offboarding, documentation, policy development and performance cycles.
  • Manage employee relations issues with a fair and thoughtful approach.
  • Optimize HR systems including BambooHR and PowerPay, ensuring accuracy, compliance and efficiency.

Talent Acquisition, Compensation & Benefits (15%)

  • Lead recruitment strategy and hiring processes across the organization.
  • Oversee compensation and benefits including pay equity and total rewards.

Desired Skills & Competencies

  • CHRP or CHRL preferred with a degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive HR experience including at least 3 years in a senior or strategic leadership role.
  • Senior HR leadership experience across key functions including employee relations, talent acquisition, compensation, organizational development and engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills with a track record of supporting healthy, inclusive teams.
  • In-depth understanding of Canadian employment legislation and compliance.
  • Experience supporting hybrid teams and fostering connection across locations.
  • Confidence in using HRIS systems and payroll platforms, particularly BambooHR and PowerPay.
  • Skilled in project and change management with a collaborative and transparent leadership approach.
