NATURE OF WORK

The main and usual role of the employee in this job class is to organize, prepare and lead a variety of activities that promote, within the framework of the school's educational project, the overall development of the students under his / her responsibility, particularly in daycare, while ensuring their well-being and safety.

He or she may also be called upon to provide support in the classroom.

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS

The employee in this job class prepares, leads and participates in activities such as sports, cultural, leisure and recreational activities, both indoors and outdoors, in accordance with established programming and educational intervention methods. She may conduct research to find activities and games suited to the students and the various events of the year; she may create certain games and crafts adapted to her students.

She helps develop students' independence, especially when dressing and undressing, and during transitions between educational activities.

Takes note of student attendance.

She helps students prepare and eat their meals and snacks, ensuring that rules of hygiene and decorum are respected.

Ensures the supervision and safety of students in accordance with rules of conduct, safety measures and parents' recommendations; provides first aid and, where necessary, administers medication in accordance with medical prescriptions, the school's student supervision policy and parents' instructions; may be called upon to discuss the behavior of students in her care with parents and other concerned parties.

She maintains order and cleanliness on the premises, and is responsible for the upkeep of materials and equipment.

She may be called upon to help students with their schoolwork, ensuring a climate and environment conducive to homework and lessons; if necessary, she may answer simple questions in compliance with the teacher's instructions to the student.

She may be called upon to participate in various meetings concerning the organization and operation of the school environment, within the limits of her responsibilities.

She attends parent information meetings upon request.

She may be called upon to take part in meetings aimed at drawing up an intervention plan in order to pass on her observations and formulate pertinent suggestions concerning the handicapped student or the student with social maladjustments or learning disabilities, and applies the measures adopted within the limits of her function; she collaborates in the follow-up of the files of the students concerned.

She may assist in-school personnel with certain administrative tasks.

She may be required to use a computer and various software programs to carry out her work.

May be called upon to initiate new in-school educators.

As needed, she performs other related tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must hold a Secondary V diploma and an Attestation of Vocational Studies in Childcare, or hold a diploma and an Attestation of Studies whose equivalence is recognized by the competent authority, and have one (1) year of relevant experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Must hold a document dating back no more than three (3) years, attesting to successful completion of :

Either a general first aid course of at least eight (8) hours; a refresher course of at least six (6) hours to update the knowledge acquired in the course mentioned in the previous paragraph.

SALARY : Step 1 : $25.20 to step 7 : $29.07 per hour, determined on the basis of qualifications and experience.
