Overview
Stantec is seeking a Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Advisor to support the Québec region in implementing the company’s HSE program. The position will be based in one of our major offices in Québec and will report to the Regional HSE Director.
Responsibilities
- Apply practical knowledge and experience to independently resolve complex HSE issues related to our operations.
- Collaborate with the Regional HSE Director to investigate, manage, and track incidents, identify effective corrective and preventive actions, and share lessons learned.
- Lead process improvements aligned with strategic business and HSE goals.
- Support operations in effectively using Stantec’s HSE systems, including the HSE program manual, safe work practices, incident management system, risk management tools, and local legislation.
- Provide technical assistance to project teams for hazard planning and field activity risk assessments, integrating Stantec and client HSE requirements.
- Conduct field assessments, planned work observations, and site inspections to support the region and business units.
- Deliver information sessions on Stantec’s HSE programs.
- Develop creative and relevant HSE communications and support leadership in launching them.
- Maintain a visible HSE presence through field visits, information sessions, and follow-up meetings.
- Facilitate incident follow-ups with supervisors and employees, and support investigations with project managers and leadership.
- Assist project teams in developing site-specific health and safety plans and emergency response plans.
- Support the development and tracking of key HSE performance indicators and collaborate with leadership to meet annual goals.
- Act as liaison with CNESST representatives for accident case follow-ups.
- Collaborate with HSE resources across offices, regions, countries, and business units as needed.
- Participate in local and regional occupational health and safety committee meetings.
- Guide managers in tracking preventive and corrective actions using Stantec’s internal tools.
- Attend regional ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 audits when relevant.
- Coordinate and facilitate monthly meetings with office HSE coordinators.
- Support the implementation of the internal office ergonomics program.
- Identify medical surveillance requirements based on potential exposures.
Qualifications
- Practical knowledge of applicable SSE regulations in Québec.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build and maintain interpersonal relationships with colleagues and collaborators.
- Excellent leadership skills, ability to set priorities and work autonomously.
- Certification in general health and safety on construction sites (ASP construction).
- Ability to prepare and present talks to groups of various sizes (virtual or in person).
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Excellent command of French (oral and written); proficiency in English required to collaborate with internal teams outside Quebec or with clients.
- Willingness to travel up to 15% (typically short trips).
- Ability to safely navigate stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, enter active construction sites, and wear specialized PPE.
Education and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a health and safety-related profession.
- Degree in health and safety at work.
- Significant field experience is an asset.
