The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Communications Specialist to join our team as a force multiplier. A strong writer and organized communicator who provides critical executional support to keep internal and corporate communications running smoothly. This is a hybrid role spanning internal employee engagement, external corporate and brand communications, and digital/owned communications.

Reporting to the Director, Communications and working closely with the Sr. Director, Communications, you’ll help deliver clear, consistent, and engaging communications across multiple audiences. This is an execution-focused role, designed for someone eager to learn and grow while making an immediate impact in a fast-evolving industry.

Responsibilities

Internal Communications & Engagement

  • Draft and edit content for intranet posts, newsletters, and company spotlights.
  • Support execution of employee engagement campaigns, events, and town halls.
  • Assist with measurement and reporting to track communications impact.
  • Update digital screens across company sites with timely product/brand assets.
  • Maintain and update the communications calendar to ensure alignment across initiatives.

Corporate, Brand & Medical Communications

  • Draft first versions of press releases, media briefing documents, and Q&As.
  • Support media relations activities, including pitching, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Assist with product launch communications and amplification across channels.

Digital, Social & Owned Channels

  • Assist with website content updates and digital asset coordination.
  • Help build and maintain a long-term content calendar across launches, announcements, and culture-building initiatives.
  • Schedule posts for corporate social media accounts and manage any inbound questions.
  • Help ensure consistent tone and brand voice across all owned platforms.
  • Provide light video/photo editing support for internal and social content (asset, not requirement).
Experience
  • 1-3 years of communications, public relations, or related experience, ideally in a corporate or agency environment.
  • Experience with internal communications, corporate storytelling, and social/digital content.
  • Strong writing and editing skills; able to adapt tone for internal, executive, and external audiences.
  • Ability to juggle multiple deadlines with strong attention to detail.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and flexible in a fast-paced environment.
  • Industry exposure: Experience in or openness/passion for the cannabis sector strongly preferred.
  • Digital/AI competency: Comfort with communications tools, platforms, and emerging AI technologies considered an asset.
  • Shortlisted candidates may be asked to complete a brief written assignment as part of the recruitment process.
Other Details

This is a full-time hybrid position, with a preference for candidates based in Ottawa/Smiths Falls, Kincardine/Tiverton/Bruce Grey County, or Toronto (the GTA).
