Job summary

A local government body in Central Ontario is seeking an Assist Instructor Guards to support swim classes, assist with pool operations, and engage in teamwork. Ideal candidates will be a minimum of 15 years old, enrolled in school, and have a current LSS Bronze Cross certificate alongside Standard First Aid with C.P.R. Level C. Flexibility in working hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, is required. This position offers valuable experience in aquatics and recreation management.

Job description
Position Description

Assist Instructor Guards with the instruction of various swim classes by organizing equipment, performing demonstrations of skills and/or strokes, providing feedback and any additional support required by the instructor and/or participants. Assistant Instructor Guards will also have the opportunity to learn and help with lesson planning and leading activities during lessons.

  • Work according to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Lifesaving Society Standards, and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Assist with general facility maintenance, which includes taking water readings, performing daily cleaning duties/weekly checks, cleaning change rooms, showers and washroom areas as required, and ensuring safety equipment is maintained to acceptable working condition.
  • Assist with special pool programs/events and County water safety initiatives.
  • Attend aquatic division meetings and in-house training sessions that are organized by the Supervisor.
  • Participate in team building with all staff.
  • Assist aquatics team members at the Delhi Kinsmen Pool by helping at the customer service counter. Duties to include handling money (public swims, registrations, concession sales), answering the phone, processing registrations, dispensing concession stand candy, and providing customers with information pertaining to the programs run at the Delhi Kinsmen Pool and Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre.
  • Other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 15 years old, with the intent to complete aquatic qualifications to become fully certified.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a secondary education institution or institution of high learning on a full-time basis and be returning to school full-time at the next available term.
  • Must hold a minimum of current LSS Bronze Cross certificate.
  • Standard First Aid with C.P.R. Level C.
  • LSS Assistant Instructor award – an asset.
  • LSS Swim Instructor certification – an asset.
  • LSS Instructor certification – an asset.
  • National Lifeguard certification – an asset.
  • High 5 – Principles of Healthy Child Development – an asset.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must be self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Must have the ability to provide leadership in instructional classes.
  • Capable of working effectively in a “team” environment.
  • Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment and have a basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Note

Recreation and Aquatics is a 7-day operation. Must be available and willing to work early mornings, days, weekends, evenings and holidays.

Employment is conditional upon: attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.

At time of application must be enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary education institution or institution of higher learning.
