Job description

The ARC is hiring! We are currently looking to fill the part-time position of Animal Care/Herdsperson to tend the animals in the ARC (Advanced Reproductive Centre) facility. The position is Monday to Friday mornings and late afternoons, with every other weekend shifts from 6-8am and 4-6pm.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the timely feeding, cleaning, and care of animals within the IVF and other reproductive programs, maintaining wellbeing to support elite standards and results.
  • Report to management any concerns of injury, sickness, or other matters pertaining to animal wellbeing within the reproductive programs.
  • Assist on routine herd health matters and the introduction of new animals into the system.
  • Maintain and safely use equipment and machinery (skid steer, blowers, etc.).
  • Perform basic chore work and upkeep related to livestock husbandry as part of weekday responsibilities; participate in additional tasks as required in the best interest of the ARC.
  • Operate and care for machinery safely after receiving correct instruction.
Qualifications
  • Proven and demonstrated animal husbandry experience
  • Ability to communicate on all levels
  • Appreciates the importance of good documentation
  • Ability to work under a specified system without supervision
  • Knowledge of basic animal welfare with regards to sickness or injury, attending to each individual animal
  • Ability to observe and assess animal behavior (e.g., heat detection)
  • Ability to raise concerns in a constructive and acceptable manner
  • Ability to work outdoors and indoors in the adverse conditions typically encountered in agriculture
Compensation

Compensation, depending on experience, is between $23 – 27 / hour.
