Position Summary
Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Clinical Development, Department Chair, or assigned Director, the Nurse Coordinator is a vital clinical leader responsible for supporting high-quality patient care through a combination of direct clinical services (Resource Time) and care coordination, communication, and planning activities (Coordination Time). This role ensures safe, efficient, and patient-centered care while improving communication between patients, clinical staff, and providers. The Nurse Coordinator can be assigned to two of the following departments; Surgery, Medicine, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Dermatology, Women’s Health, FPP Administration or the Access Center.
Key Responsibilities
Resource Time – Clinical Care & Education
Time allocated for direct patient-facing care and in-clinic clinical responsibilities, including:
- Attend and make recommendations for departmental huddles and delegation of clinical duties
- Perform clinical skills, medication administration, and other direct care duties
- Support daily clinic operations, triage, and patient flow
- Educate patients and families on health conditions, medications, and follow-up instructions
- Participate in and deliver in-service training and continuing education to staff
- Ensure accurate documentation of all clinical activities in the EHR
- Monitor for quality concerns during clinical care and escalate as needed
- Support referral management, by triaging referrals against Schedule Advisor protocols
- Support authorization team, by responding to peer-to-peer requests
- Provide pre-surgery and pre-procedure patient education
- Route patients to follow up appointments post discharge
- Work with the Access Center Nursing team to implement red/yellow/green triage matrix
Coordination Time – Planning, Collaboration & Administrative Support
Time dedicated to activities that support quality and continuity of care, including:
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and provider collaboration sessions with Providers
- Review labs, imaging, and patient messages/tasks to support timely follow-up
- Coordinate patient care across departments during afternoon staffing huddle
- Support tracking and follow-up of patients with chronic conditions, missed appointments, or abnormal results
- Engage in quality improvement activities like QSI rounds, chart reviews, and safety checks
- Maintain accurate records for compliance with clinical guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Assist with patient outreach to support adherence to treatment plans or follow-up appointments
- Manage prescription refills
Minimum Qualifications
- Registered RN – Required
- DC License – Required or within 90 days if active current state license
- BSN, MSN or MHSA, MPH or equivalent – Preferred
- Certified in clinical specialty – Preferred
- 2+ years experience in an academic health system - Preferred
- 3+ years ambulatory nursing experience or 2 years inpatient experience on a med/surg unit - Required

Compliance Salary Range Disclosure
Expected Pay Range: $85,000
