Job description

Job Title: Engineering Project Controller

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Head of Engineering (dotted line report to the Directors of the Company)

Location: ETS Jebel Ali

Type: Full-Time On-site

Purpose of the Role

To act as the central operational controller for all engineering deliverables at ETS, ensuring accurate and on-time output of GTPs, BOMs, drawings, datasheets, and nameplates across all transformer verticals. The Engineering Project Controller manages planning, inter-team coordination, execution tracking, and downstream readiness, with the authority to escalate blockers and align priorities across departments.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Engineering Execution Oversight
    • Maintain a real-time tracker (via SAP) for all confirmed orders and RFQs across verticals.
    • Monitor engineering output across electrical and mechanical teams, including GTPs, wiring diagrams, drawings, BOMs.
    • Track and enforce engineering task commitments through structured follow-up and daily status reviews.
  2. Kickoff & Planning
    • Ensure Engineering Kickoff Forms are fully filled and reviewed for every new SAP-confirmed order.
    • Allocate engineering resources weekly based on workload priorities and order types.
    • Lock deliverables for transparency and performance tracking.
  3. Inter-Team & Cross-Functional Coordination
    • Liaise daily with engineering vertical leads (electrical & mechanical), Planning, SCM, Production, and QA to ensure smooth workflow.
    • Escalate delays, gaps, or misalignments to Head of Engineering or COO.
    • Coordinate document readiness for testing, FAT, inspection, and production.
  4. Documentation & Data Control
    • Maintain an organized, version-controlled archive of drawings, BOMs, and datasheets.
    • Assist engineers in referencing past project designs to reduce turnaround time.
    • Maintain a rework/issues log for root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
  5. Strategic Responsibilities (Phase 2/3)
    • Tag and classify past engineering records to support future AI/data analytics efforts.
    • Co-develop SOPs and checklists with the Design Head to institutionalize process discipline.
    • Track department KPIs such as document cycle time, reuse percentage, issue rate, and release hit rate.
  6. Key Outputs
    • Weekly dashboards of engineering task status.
    • Daily tracker updates and query logs.
    • War Room summaries with actions/escalations.
    • Handover readiness status for production or inspection.
    • Rework & reuse database for continuous learning.
  7. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
    • % of orders released to production on or before the committed date.
    • Average document cycle time per project.
    • Response time for basic queries.
    • Reference reuse rate (internal designs/BOMs).
    • Accuracy and completeness of tracker updates.
  8. Required Skills & Qualifications
    • Degree or Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
    • 3-5 years in transformer project engineering, design coordination, or documentation.
    • Familiarity with SAP workflows, BOM structures, and engineering records.
    • Working knowledge of Excel/Sheets and dashboard/reporting tools.
    • Strong interpersonal skills for cross-functional coordination and follow-up.
    • Clear understanding of transformer deliverables and design release sequences.
  9. Preferred Attributes
    • High ownership and ability to manage many moving parts.
    • Proactive, structured, and delivery-focused.
    • Technically competent to interpret engineering workflows, not a designer.
    • Experience in ETO (Engineer-to-Order) environments preferred.
