Requirements
  • Minimum of National Diploma Water Care (Water Science and Technology) or a relevant National Diploma.
  • Classified or eligible to be Classified as a Class V Process Controller (in a wastewater/sewage treatment plant) in terms of Regulation 3630 of 30 June 2023 issued in terms of the Water Act, 1956 (Act 54 of 1956).
  • 8 years’ relevant experience in wastewater treatment, of which 5 years must be at a managerial/supervisory level (Technician/Superintendent/Senior Superintendent/Plant Manager).
  • Physically fit. The incumbent must be able to perform on-site operational execution and monitoring of tasks, including working in heights, confined spaces and high noise zone.
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions and at any time of the day or night, including weekends and public holidays.
  • Valid code EB Driver’s license.
Key Performance Areas
  • Managing the Process Control units and resources of one or more wastewater treatment plant and marine outfalls pump stations to ensure that treated effluent complies with the required legislated standards.
  • Performing operational functions such as assessing and monitoring the performance of the wastewater treatment works process units for correct process optimization/changes to be made to ensure effluent compliance.
  • Performing in the role of Cost Centre Manager and controlling the usage of the operating budget, including certifying of tax invoices in respect of operation contract payments.
  • Manage the resources, i.e. human resources (staff), fleet, tools, etc. to ensure effective operation of the wastewater treatment processes.
  • Manage the maintenance of assets by ensuring that the economic life of the assets at the treatment works are maximised and breakdowns are reduced to a minimum.
  • Manage the health and safety of employees and equipment by ensuring that all health and safety policies and procedures are adhered to.
