Overview
To monitor, diagnose and report on the health of high-speed packaging and manufacturing equipment using predictive and condition-based maintenance techniques. The successful candidate will support the Engineering & Maintenance team to prevent unplanned downtime, extend asset life and reduce maintenance costs.
Responsibilities
- Perform vibration analysis on rotating equipment (motors, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, blowers, compressors).
- Conduct thermographic, ultrasonic and oil analysis inspections to detect early-stage mechanical or electrical faults.
- Analyse data trends, diagnose faults (unbalance, misalignment, bearing wear, looseness, electrical issues).
- Compile detailed reports with recommended corrective actions for maintenance planning.
- Perform precision shaft alignment and balancing on packaging line equipment.
- Maintain and update condition monitoring records in the plant’s CMMS / EAM system (e.g., SAP PM, Pragma, Maximo).
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to plan predictive maintenance shutdowns.
- Ensure all work complies with safety, quality and HACCP/GMP requirements (if in food/pharma packaging).
Minimum Requirements
- Trade Tested Millwright / Fitter & Turner / Electrician OR NDip/BTech in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in condition monitoring within FMCG, packaging, bottling or high-speed manufacturing environments.
- Vibration Analysis Certification: ISO Cat I or II (essential).
- Thermography Level 1 and/or Oil Analysis Level 1 (advantageous).
- Hands-on experience with tools such as SKF, Pruftechnik, Fluke, Emerson CSI.
- Familiar with predictive maintenance strategies (PdM, RCM).
- Strong diagnostic & reporting skills (fault analysis, trend reporting).
- Solid understanding of rotating machinery and packaging OEM equipment (Krones, Tetra Pak, Sidel, KHS, Bosch, etc.).
Soft Skills & Attributes
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving ability.
- Effective communication and reporting skills (technical & non-technical audiences).
- Safety-first attitude and attention to detail.
