Job description

The Technical Sales Team Leader is responsible for driving sales growth through regular customer visits, proactive cold calling, and structured territory development.

This is a hands‑on sales role that also provides leadership and support to the Technical Sales Representative and the Sales / Administrative Support function.

The Team Leader ensures accurate reporting on , monitors sales performance, and helps the team achieve monthly sales targets.

The role focuses on strengthening customer relationships, expanding market opportunities, and ensuring the sales function operates efficiently and professionally.

Primary Responsibilities Field Sales & Customer Engagement

Conduct regular customer visits to strengthen relationships and expand business opportunities.

Identify and pursue new business through cold calling, prospecting, and planned territory development.

Represent the company professionally during all customer interactions, meetings, and events.

Prepare and deliver customer‑specific proposals, quotations, and product recommendations.

Maintain ongoing communication with customers regarding service issues, product needs, and follow‑up actions.

Work closely with the Technical Sales Representative to plan customer visits, call cycles, and weekly objectives.

Provide mentorship, guidance, and product knowledge support to the Technical Sales Representative.

Oversee the performance of the rep, offering coaching and support where necessary to achieve targets.

Support the Sales / Administrative Support staff member to ensure accurate reporting and system updates.

Encourage collaboration, accountability, and strong customer focus across the sales function.

Oversee and verify all sales reporting submitted on , ensuring accuracy and completeness.

Ensure the Technical Sales Representative and Sales / Administrative Support staff maintain consistent CRM and updates.

Prepare weekly sales summaries, highlighting achievements, challenges, and key insights for management.

Track individual and team sales targets, implementing corrective actions when performance gaps arise.

Ensure documentation and sales processes align with ISO quality requirements.

Business Development & Sales Strategy

Identify potential growth sectors, emerging opportunities, and key accounts to target.

Assist in planning customer strategies, pricing proposals, and sales campaigns.

Participate in tender submissions, proposal compilation, and major customer projects.

Provide input to management regarding market trends, competitor activity, and customer requirements.

Qualifications & Experience Matric (Grade 12)

Technical qualification in Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline – advantageous but not required.

Minimum 5 years' experience in technical sales, customer management, or sales coordination.

At least 1–2 years' experience in a team leader, senior sales, or supervisory role.

Experience in lubricants, chemicals, or industrial products – beneficial.

Proficiency with CRM systems and sales administration processes.

Strong field sales capability with proven customer engagement skills.

Ability to cold call, develop new business, and manage customer pipelines.

Leadership ability with a proactive, supportive approach to team collaboration.

Strong administrative, organisational, and reporting skills

Comfortable analysing sales data, monitoring KPIs, and identifying performance gaps.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

High level of professionalism, accountability, and customer service focus.

Technical understanding of lubricants or industrial products – advantageous.
