Responsibilities

Position Purpose: The Social Media Specialist, Self-Directed, is responsible for developing, coordinating, and activating social media content across marketing and multiple business areas, with a specific focus on Self-Directed and global retail audiences.

The main objective of this role is to deepen engagement with existing followers, attract new audiences, and build broader awareness of the company’s market insight capabilities.

Central to the position will be the development of social-first strategies based on performance-based KPIs, such as brand awareness, engagement, view retention, traffic and lead-gen. As well as successful collaboration with a network of stakeholders, market commentary experts and collaboration with global marketing managers to understand regional products, campaigns, events, trends and opportunities, for Forex, StoneX and City Index.

Output will span macroeconomic themes, education, and trading strategies across platforms including X/Twitter, Meta, YouTube, TikTok, and other strategic outlets.

The position supports traders, investors, and adjacent financial audiences across multiple platforms, including potential media engagement and brand-building initiatives. Market insights include FX, macroeconomics, commodities, indices, and emerging sectors such as payments and crypto. Content should integrate SEO principles to support search visibility and brand discovery.

Primary duties will include:

  • Coordinate, support, and manage static, written, and video content from market analysts across key asset classes, for distribution on social media.
  • An awareness of global market developments and ability to publish timely, compelling content as ‘breaking news’ and events.
  • Support the global social team in maintaining an internal, dynamic content calendar covering reactive, evergreen, and educational content.
  • Adapt and distribute content across platforms with varying formats, styles, and voice requirements, driving engagement toward long-form analysis on company properties.
  • Produce regular performance reports through the interrogation of content, campaigns, and platform analytics (organic and paid). Articulated as concise, coherent insights and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Central Marketing teams - including Content, Design, Video, Studio, Web, SEO - and critical partners such as Compliance and Online Reputation Management to ensure accuracy, brand alignment, and regulatory adherence.
  • Work with the line manager and department head to define and track KPIs whilst participating in social media and planning meetings with internal stakeholders.
Qualifications

To land this role you will need:

  • 5+ years of social media experience.
  • 1–2+ years of developing social media strategies, from ideation through execution and analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of social platforms, KPIs, analytics, measurement, and reporting.
  • Experience managing multiple social media content calendars.
  • Experience creating content within a highly regulated industry.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and quality control.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Collaborative team player with strong networking, creativity, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Strong understanding of FX, macroeconomics, and indices markets, and ability to communicate to beginner through advanced audiences.
  • Expertise across major social media platforms (X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.).
  • Experience working with virtual, global teams.
  • Demonstrated personal interest in markets and trading.
  • Experience working with content creators.
  • Must be authorized to work in South Africa.
  • Must be able to work in the Cape Town office up to four days per week in accordance with company policy.
