Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Fibre Technicianto join our growing technical team. This role focuses on the installation, splicing, and commissioning of fibre infrastructure with integrated wireless systems in multi‑dwelling residential environments.

Key Responsibilities
Fibre Infrastructure & Splicing
  • Install and terminate fibre optic cables in multi‑storey buildings and MDU environments
  • Perform fusion and mechanical splicing for backbone, distribution, and drop cable systems
  • Connect and configure G points including building entry points, riser distribution points, and floor distribution boxes
  • Install and dress fibre splice enclosures in various environments (indoor/outdoor, street cabinets, building risers)
  • Conduct OTDR testing, troubleshooting, and documentation of fibre networks
  • Install and maintain FTTH/FTTP connections to individual residential units
Wireless Systems Integration
  • Deploy and configure wireless access points for building‑wide coverage
  • Install point‑to‑multipoint wireless systems for multi‑floor residential complexes
  • Integrate wireless distribution networks with fibre backbone infrastructure
  • Conduct RF surveys and optimize wireless coverage in high‑density environments
  • Commission and test wireless systems to ensure fibre‑like speeds and performance
Technical Leadership
  • Mentor and guide junior technicians on site
  • Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and industry standards
  • Maintain accurate as‑built documentation and site reports
  • Liaise with project managers, building management, and clients
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues across fibre and wireless platforms
Required Qualifications & Experience
Essential
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience as a fibre optic technician
  • Proven experience with fusion splicing (mass fusion and single fibre)
  • Strong knowledge of FTTH/FTTP installation in MDU/MTU environments
  • Experience installing and connecting G points, distribution boxes, and building entry points
  • Competency in OTDR testing and fibre characterization
  • Experience with wireless access point installation and configuration
  • Working at heights certification (advantageous)
  • Valid driver's license and own reliable transport
  • Strong understanding of health and safety protocols
Desirable
  • Fibre optic certifications (CFOT, FOA, or equivalent)
  • Experience with specific equipment brands (Cambium, Ubiquiti, Mikrotik, or similar)
  • Knowledge of copper cabling and structured cabling systems
  • Experience working with Openreach, CityFibre, or major South African fibre operators
  • PASMA or IPAF certification
  • First Aid certification
