Job description

We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented SAIPA Accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing accounting functions for a portfolio of clients, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and tax regulations. This role is ideal for a qualified SAIPA member or an individual nearing completion of their SAIPA articles.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Maintain accurate accounting records for clients across various industries
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, reconciliations, and VAT returns
  • Prepare and review annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS for SMEs
  • Process payroll and submit EMP201, EMP501, and IRP5 reconciliations
  • Complete and submit SARS returns (VAT, PAYE, Income Tax)
  • Liaise directly with clients and respond to queries in a professional manner
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Work closely with auditors during the audit process
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including Companies Act and Tax Act
  • Mentor and supervise junior staff or SAIPA trainees, if applicable

Minimum Requirements :

  • BCom Degree in Accounting or Financial Management (essential)
  • Completed or currently completing SAIPA articles
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as a SAIPA Professional Accountant
  • 2–5 years’ experience in a similar accounting role, ideally within a firm environment
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, Pastel, Draftworx, CaseWare)
  • Good understanding of IFRS for SMEs and tax legislation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple client accounts and meet deadlines
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Team player with a strong work ethic and professionalism
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
