Job summary

A construction firm in South Africa is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to manage tendering, calculate costs, and oversee subcontractor work. The ideal candidate has a Btech or BSc in Quantity Surveying and at least 10 years of experience in Civil and Building Construction. Proficiency in CCS Candy and construction cost management software is essential. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to work under pressure.

Qualifications

  • 10 years post graduate experience as a Quantity Surveyor in Civil and Building Construction.
  • Understanding of legislation and contracts (JBCC, NEC, FIDIC, GCC).
  • Candidates to have valid license and own transport.

Responsibilities

  • Identify suitable sub-contractors and compile competitive tenders.
  • Calculate quantities and costs for materials, labor, and timeframes.
  • Manage risk and ensure compliance with regulations and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Tendering : identify suitable sub-contractors, define material specifications and compile competitive tenders.
  • Consult with clients to understand their requirements
  • Calculate quantities and costs for materials, labour, timeframes
  • Prepare tender packages and contracts, including bills of quantities
  • Manage risk, value engineering and cost control measures
  • Analyse repair / maintenance costs
  • Negotiates contracts and schedules
  • Oversee and value subcontractors' work for payments
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and quality standards
  • Continually assess value for the client's investment
  • Analyse outcomes and provide budget / progress reports
  • Advise on claims, disputes and any contractual issues
  • Conduct feasibility studies to vet proposed projects
  • Preparing budgets, cost plans, and estimates
  • Monitoring project costs in real time and adjusting the budget as needed.
  • Preparing cost reports to keep stakeholders and clients informed of the project's financial status.
  • Preparing the final accounts to reconcile actual and estimated costs and mark the end of the financial agreement between the client and the contractor.
  • Advising the design team on alternative materials and types of construction, as well as the financial aspects of contracts.

Requirements
  • Minimum education : Btech or BSc in Quantity Surveying
  • Experience : 10 years post graduate experience as a Quantity Surveyor on Civil and Building Construction.
  • Technical skills or software knowledge : MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), construction cost management software (Candy, Build Smart), knowledge of legislation and contracts (JBCC, NEC, FIDIC, GCC).
  • Competence : Planning & organising, accuracy & quality, people management, clear communication, problem solving and decision making.
  • Transport : Candidates to have valid license and own transport
