Purpose of the Job
The Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering engineering projects within the steel manufacturing environment. The role focuses on the successful execution of capital projects, process industrialisation, equipment installation, and process improvements, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related qualification
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Project or Engineering role within automotive or steel manufacturing
- Press, Weld, or Tooling environment experience advantageous
Technical Requirements
- Proven experience in engineering project management within a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of steel manufacturing, press operations, and production processes
- Ability to manage equipment installation, line modifications, and process industrialisation
- Experience with project planning, scheduling, and cost control
- Strong engineering fundamentals and technical problem-solving ability
- Experience with quality systems and compliance requirements
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHS standards
- Strong safety awareness and risk assessment capability
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with intermediate Excel skills
- Ability to manage contractors, suppliers, and cross-functional stakeholders

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and execute engineering and capital projects from concept to commissioning
- Manage project scope, timelines, budgets, and resources
- Support industrialisation of new products, tooling, and processes
- Coordinate equipment installation, line modifications, and process upgrades
- Ensure projects comply with safety, quality, and environmental standards
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe project execution
- Monitor project progress and report status to management
- Liaise with production, maintenance, quality, suppliers, and contractors
- Resolve technical issues and implement corrective actions
- Support continuous improvement initiatives linked to engineering projects
- Ensure proper documentation, handover, and project close-out.
