A governmental organization in the Western Cape is seeking an experienced Operator to transport and maintain heavy road construction machinery. Candidates should have a Grade 10 certificate, a valid EC driving license with a PDP, and at least 6 years of relevant experience. Key responsibilities include ensuring legal compliance in transportation, performing maintenance on equipment, and managing operational activities. The Department of Infrastructure, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a Operator to transport heavy road construction machinery and equipment by means of a Transporter, as well as the assistance with the maintenance and construction of the Proclaimed Road Network.
Grade 10 certificate (equivalent or higher qualification); A minimum of 6 years relevant experience; A valid code EC driving license with a professional driving permit (PDP).
Working knowledge and experience in the following: Loading and transporting of road construction equipment; Uses of safety equipment; Basic mechanical maintenance of the transporter; Abnormal load permits; Operating minor and large construction machines; Management and Supervision of staff; Administrative related experience.
Transportation of road construction machinery and equipment with Transporter; Ensure load on Transporter is legally compliant according to the permit and check validity of transport permit; Load and secure road construction equipment; Check Transporter for roadworthiness; Check safety equipment; Complete logs for Transporter; Clean and daily maintenance on Transporter; Test road construction equipment at workshop.
R 228 321 - R 268 950 per annum (Salary level 5)

Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend interviews on a date and time determined by the department and submit documentation for verification purposes and criminal record vetting. All shortlisted candidates, shall undertake two pre-entry assessments. One will be a practical exercise to determine a candidate’s suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements and the other must be an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment. The selection process will be guided by the EE targets of the employing department.
