Job description
Main Purpose of the Role:

The Millwright is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial machinery and heavy equipment to ensure optimal operational performance. This role is critical in minimising downtime, maximising productivity, and ensuring the safe, efficient functioning of plant and equipment. The incumbent works with a wide range of mechanical systems and tools to assemble, dismantle, align, and calibrate machinery components to achieve precise operational standards.


Desirable Education and Experience:


  • Proven experience as a Millwright or in a similar mechanical role within an industrial or manufacturing environment

  • Extensive knowledge of machinery installation, assembly, alignment, troubleshooting, and repair

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) preferred

  • Competence in the use of hand and power tools, precision measuring instruments, and welding equipment

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy loads and working at heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme temperature environments

  • High attention to detail and the ability to follow technical instructions and safety guidelines accurately

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams

  • Basic computer literacy for maintenance reporting, record keeping, and communication

  • Relevant technical certifications or vocational training in millwrighting or related mechanical fields (advantageous)

  • Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport for travel to multiple job sites


Key Areas of Responsibility:


  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment to identify potential failures and ensure optimal performance

  • Install, assemble, dismantle, and commission machinery and equipment in accordance with specifications, blueprints, and industry standards

  • Align, balance, and calibrate machinery to ensure precision operation and performance efficiency

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults using appropriate diagnostic tools and methodologies

  • Repair, replace, and refurbish defective components including motors, bearings, belts, gears, shafts, and other mechanical parts

  • Perform routine servicing tasks such as lubrication, greasing, cleaning, and oiling of machinery

  • Operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and precision measuring instruments safely and effectively

  • Ensure strict compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and company safety standards

  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, machine operators, and maintenance teams to resolve technical issues and improve equipment reliability

  • Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, and repair records for compliance and reporting purposes

  • Stay informed on industry developments, emerging technologies, and best practices in millwrighting and mechanical maintenance
