Responsibilities
- Report to the Director of Infrastructure & Operations within the IC Department.
- Lead a team of IT professionals focused on Microsoft applications and server infrastructure.
- Fulfil technical and administrative duties within the department.
- Ensure successful deployment, maintenance, and support of the Microsoft environment (on‑premises and cloud).
- Plan, manage, and coordinate operational activities to maintain continuous availability.
- Contribute to the university's IT strategy.
- Coach and mentor team members on best practices.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues to keep operations smooth.
- Stay updated on Microsoft technologies and industry trends.
Operational Management
- Continuously improve processes and outcomes within the technical team.
- Ensure IT infrastructure is secure, reliable, and efficient.
- Develop, update, and enforce IT policies and procedures.
- Support implementation and maintenance of IT systems, software, and hardware.
- Coordinate with vendors for incident resolution and support obligations.
- Manage testing and deployment of new Microsoft systems.
- Document and manage Microsoft infrastructure architecture and product lifecycle.
- Develop mature operational processes.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of IT processes, systems, and projects.
- Prepare and present regular reports on access reviews, system changes, project status, and IT operations.
- Ensure documentation meets organizational standards.
Problem Solving and Decision Making
- Make informed decisions benefiting team and organization.
- Foster a problem‑solving mindset and encourage innovative solutions.
Project Coordination
- Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers.
- Plan, initiate, and manage IT projects within time and budget.

- Governance: ensure adherence to guidelines, resource allocation, transparency.
- Contribute to annual infrastructure budget.
- Draft and evaluate tender documentation for Microsoft solutions.
- Implement and support ICT vendor management.
- Consult and advise departments on server and application requirements.
- Collaborate across organization levels.
Minimum Requirements
- Degree or relevant qualification (NQF 7) with 3 to 5 years of related experience.
- Industry Standard Certification: Relevant Microsoft Certifications.
- Technical middle management: 2 to 3 years experience.
- Proficiency in Active Directory and Entra ID.
- Proficiency in virtualization infrastructure.

- PowerShell scripting expertise.
- Strong networking protocols and security knowledge.
- Familiarity with Microsoft SQL.
Security
- Skills in implementing security hardening for Windows environments.
- Experience in patch and vulnerability management.
System Centre Suite Experience
- Virtual Machine Manager.

Identity Management
Strong understanding of identity management practices.
Project Management

- 2 to 3 years managing vendor relationships.
