Job summary

A leading research institution in Pretoria seeks a qualified individual to conduct research on lipid nanoparticle mRNA formulations. Candidates should hold a BSc Honours, BSc or Medical Laboratory Technology qualification in Molecular Biology or Biochemistry. The role requires at least one year of practical laboratory experience, proficiency with laboratory equipment, and familiarity with bio-hazardous materials. Responsibilities
  • Carry out research on the optimisation of lipid nanoparticle (LNP) mRNA formulations that incorporate novel compounds derived from bio‑renewable sources.
  • Meet reporting deadlines.
Key Performance Areas / Required Experience
  • Experience working in a molecular biology / biochemistry research laboratory.
  • Proficiency with operating electrical and non‑electrical laboratory equipment.
  • Familiarity with requirements for work with bio‑hazardous material and working aseptically.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and animal husbandry.
Required Minimum Education and Training
  • BSc Honours, BSc or Medical Laboratory Technology qualification in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related fields.
Required Minimum Work Experience
  • 1 year practical experience with molecular biology and/or biochemistry research.
Desirable Additional Education, Work Experience and Personal Abilities
  • Experience with cell culture.
  • Strong written and verbal scientific communication.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
