Role Overview
The Logistics Planner is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all logistics activities to ensure the efficient, cost‑effective, and compliant movement of goods. The role supports both local and cross‑border logistics operations, with a strong focus on African shipments, logistics cost optimisation, documentation compliance, and service‑level performance.
Experience & Qualifications
- Matric (Grade 12) essential.
- A qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (advantageous).
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in logistics planning, transport coordination, or scheduling.
- Experience with cross‑border shipping, particularly into African countries.

- Strong knowledge of transport planning and logistics processes, including international shipping documents.
- Ability to read delivery schedules and route plans.
- Computer literacy: MS Excel, Outlook, and logistics systems.

Key Role Outputs
Planning & Co‑ordination
- Develop and execute daily, weekly, and monthly logistics plans in alignment with procurement, production, and operational requirements.
- Schedule and coordinate transport for inbound and outbound deliveries and collections.
- Optimise delivery routes, transport modes, and load planning to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Ensure that all stock is dispatched and received in accordance with agreed deadlines and priorities.
- Coordinate logistics activities across warehouses, suppliers, transport providers, and customers.
Communication & Stakeholder Liaison
- Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external logistics stakeholders, including transporters, drivers, warehouse personnel, suppliers, and customers.
- Provide timely and accurate updates on shipment and delivery status.
- Communicate changes, delays, and risks promptly to relevant parties.
- Maintain effective working relationships with logistics service providers and internal teams.
Documentation & Compliance
- Prepare, review, and process all logistics and transport documentation, including delivery notes, manifests, and shipping documentation.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, customs regulations, and legal requirements.
- Maintain accurate and auditable records of loads, routes, transport costs, deliveries, and performance data.
International and Cross‑Border Logistics
- Plan and coordinate shipments into African markets, ensuring compliance with country‑specific requirements.
- Apply Incoterms correctly and understand the cost, risk, and responsibility implications of each term.
- Manage and verify international shipping documentation, including but not limited to:
- Certificate of Conformity (CoC)
- SAD500
- Certificate of Origin
- Commercial invoices and packing lists
- Liaise with freight forwarders and clearing agents to ensure efficient customs clearance and delivery.
Cost Control, Monitoring, and Reporting
- Monitor logistics activities to ensure on‑time delivery and service‑level adherence.
- Track and analyse transport costs, vehicle utilisation, route efficiency, and delivery performance.
- Prepare regular reports for management on logistics spend, variances, and performance trends.
- Identify cost‑saving opportunities and operational efficiencies.
Supplier Management and Negotiation
- Negotiate logistics rates and service terms with transporters and logistics service providers.
- Support the Head of Procurement & Logistics in evaluating cost‑effective methodologies and logistics strategies.
- Assist in sourcing competitive and reliable logistics solutions.
Problem Resolution and Continuous Improvement
- Investigate and resolve logistics issues such as delays, breakdowns, missed deliveries, or stock discrepancies.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of logistics planning processes, systems, and controls.
- Support initiatives aimed at improving turnaround times, reducing operational costs, and enhancing service levels.
