Qualifications

Job description

Largest medical malpractice firm in the country is recruiting for an adept Legal Bookkeeper to join their finance department. The firm’s offices are situated in Hyde Park, Johannesburg.

The Legal Bookkeeper will report and work closely with an experienced Finance Manager as part of a small, but dynamic finance team. There will be a great opportunity to learn, for growth in skills as well as remuneration. Initially the role will focus on accounting and accounts payable functions, but in the medium term there will be a transition into more operational and other finance tasks.

The ideal candidate will have the required accounting qualification and minimum experience. Skills and experience that will be an added benefit includes completed SAIPA or SAICA articles, experience in a legal firm or background, Sage and/or Lexpro experience. Candidate qualified by experience will also be considered.

This will be a dynamic accounting position with solid prospects for an eager candidate wanting to grow and expand their horizons.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger entries, reconciliations, and journal postings
  • General ledger reconciliations.
  • Business credit card reconciliations.
  • Capture of weekly and monthly budget schedules.
  • Allocate and analyse payment requestions for payment and processing.
  • Processing creditors invoices and perform reconciliations.
  • Complete bridge financing applications and update of loan schedules.
  • Open and manage new files on the accounting system.
  • Close off procedure of client matters upon FM approval.
  • Assist the financial manager with audit requirements.
  • Assist with data management storage function.
  • Timely filing of all processed transactions.
  • Stationery distribution and ordering.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Assist monitoring and reporting on company expenses, variances, and cost control.
  • Manage Fixed Asset Register.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in finance or accounting.
  • Completed SAICA, SAIPA, CIMA articles an advantage, but not a requirement.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an accounting position.
  • Sage and Lexpro system experience a positive.
  • Experience working in a Law Firm, Legal environment, will be an advantage but not a hard requirement.
  • Intermediate MS Excel skills essential required.

Remuneration
