The Labeller Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining labelling equipment to ensure accurate, high-quality label application on beverage containers. This role supports production efficiency, minimizes waste, and ensures compliance with product specifications and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Machine Operation: Set up and operate labelling machines to apply labels correctly, ensuring alignment, height, and overlap meet specifications
- Quality Control: Monitor label clarity, placement, and date coding; perform regular checks (e.g., every 15 minutes) to ensure consistency
- Material Management: Coordinate with the Team Leader to ensure adequate label stock and report potential shortages proactively
- Maintenance & Cleaning: Perform routine cleaning during downtime and assist with basic maintenance tasks as directed
- Size Changeovers: Adjust conveyors, sensors, and machine settings for different bottle sizes and formats
- waste Reduction: Manage waste streams and contribute to minimizing label and packaging waste
- Documentation: Complete required QMS documentation and follow safety and hygiene protocols
- Troubleshooting: Identify and report equipment issues promptly to minimize downtime and maintain production flow
Qualifications & Experience
- Grade 12 or equivalent (Maths and Science)
- Minimum 2 year experience operating labelling equipment in a beverage or FMCG environment
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Familiarity with GMP, HACCP, and safety procedures
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting
Working Conditions
- Shift-based work in a high-speed production environment
- Standing for extended periods and manual handling of packaging materials
- Exposure to noise, moisture, and temperature variations typical of beverage plants
