Junior Sister/Charge Nurse

As a Junior Sister/ Charge Nurse you are responsible for assessment and care of respiratory patients, prioritisation of treatment, delivery of care and evaluation.

The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care with or without direct supervision, required to demonstrate procedures and to supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff within the department.

Main duties of the job
  • Oversee the day‑to‑day function of the ward.
  • Support the Ward Manager with day‑to‑day management, ensuring safe staffing levels and arranging cover when needed.
  • Manage post holders within the ward establishment.
  • Lead a team and ensure an appropriately skilled and effective workforce.
  • Work flexibly – rotations to night duty and weekend/ bank holiday duty to maintain units.
  • Specific responsibilities on Fordwich Ward include supporting the Ward Manager with post holders (registered nurses & generic support workers) and rotating night and weekend duty.

  • Recent clinical experience in an acute Trust
  • Experience of working with an electronic patient record and other basic IT systems.

  • Ability to recognise the contribution of members of the MDT
Qualifications & training
