Job description

We are recruiting for an experienced HR Manager to lead the full HR function for a prominent retail group based in Hillcrest. This is a strategic and operational role reporting directly to the Group HR Executive, with oversight across all key HR pillars: Industrial Relations, Recruitment, Skills Development, Employment Equity, and HR Admin.

If you’re a seasoned HR professional with a strong IR background, a deep understanding of South African employment law, and a hands‑on approach to recruitment, training, and compliance, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

Industrial Relations

  • Handle and resolve staff grievances proactively
  • Ensure fair implementation of the disciplinary code
  • Provide up‑to‑date IR guidance to line managers
  • Represent the company at CCMA and Labour Court when necessary
  • Maintain a healthy, compliant IR environment

Recruitment

  • Drive recruitment aligned to HR and EE strategies
  • Oversee recruitment planning, headhunting, and attraction strategies
  • Ensure accurate prioritisation of vacancies and alignment to business needs

Employment Equity

  • Develop and manage EE plans and committee meetings
  • Ensure compliance with the EE Act and achievement of numerical goals
  • Track and report on progress against BBBEE targets

Skills Development

  • Conduct training needs analysis
  • Develop and submit WSP and ATR
  • Coordinate onboarding, coaching, in‑house training, and succession planning

HR Administration

  • Ensure HR compliance across policies, employee files, and reporting
  • Conduct regular HR audits
  • Oversee payroll, compensation, and benefit administration
  • Keep HR systems and records up to date

Other Duties

  • Support Health & Safety compliance
  • Manage BBBEE process company‑wide
Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Degree in HR Management or Industrial Relations
  • 6+ years’ experience in an HR/IR Manager role
  • Proven experience in strategic IR planning
  • Solid understanding of employment law and payroll practices
  • Experience in WSP/ATR submissions and EE/BEE compliance
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced MS Office & Excel skills
  • Driver’s licence required
