Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety Coordinator to join our SHEQ team. This role requires a strong, hands‑on presence on the operational floor to identify, manage, and mitigate health and safety risks, while also taking ownership of the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the company’s Health and Safety Management System.

The successful candidate will ensure compliance with legislation, drive continuous improvement, and foster a proactive safety culture across the organisation.

Responsibilities will include:
Operational Focus:
  • Conduct daily site walks, inspections, and audits of work areas, equipment, and processes.
  • Identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and non‑compliance issues, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Engage actively with supervisors and employees to reinforce safe behaviours and operational discipline.
  • Monitor adherence to Safe Work Procedures and enforce safety standards across all shifts
Systems & Governance:
  • Develop, implement, and manage the Health & Safety Management System in line with legislative requirements and company policy.
  • Maintain and update H&S documentation including policies, procedures, registers, risk assessments, and audit reports.
  • Analyse safety data, incident trends, and audit outcomes to drive improvements and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Lead and coordinate emergency preparedness, including response plans, drills, and post‑drill evaluations.
  • Collaborate with SHEQ team members to support integrated safety, health, environmental, and quality objectives.
  • Manage incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and reporting.
  • Coordinate safety training and ensure legal compliance with competence requirements.
  • Work closely with HR regarding injury‑on‑duty processes and workers’ compensation claims
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Grade 12 (Matric) – Required
  • Professional certifications such as SAMTRAC, PSIRA, or equivalent Health & Safety qualifications – Required
  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role within an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of industry‑specific health and safety legislation and standards
  • Proven experience in managing a Health & Safety Management System
  • Proficiency in risk assessments, incident investigations, and emergency response
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a SHEQ team
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and sense of urgency.
