Job description
Our client, a prominent player in the financial services industry, is seeking a Group Advisory and Consolidated Reporting Specialist. This role is pivotal in ensuring accurate, IFRS-compliant financial reporting and disclosures that meet legal and regulatory standards. As a key advisor, you’ll contribute to technical accounting strategies, support business units, and oversee group consolidations to maintain the integrity and efficiency of the reporting process.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  1. Provide strategic input into financial reporting strategies and processes.
  2. Lead and assist in Group IFRS-specific projects as needed.
  3. Proactively address non-compliance with IFRS and other regulations.

Advisory and Collaboration:

  1. Deliver on-the-job training and constructive feedback to team members.
  2. Offer technical accounting advisory for complex transactions, such as mergers, acquisitions, restructures, and funding solutions.
  3. Support due diligence processes for intricate acquisitions.
  4. Coordinate with auditors to align on technical accounting opinions and consolidate financial statements.

Financial Reporting:

  1. Coordinate, consolidate, and review high-risk areas in Group IFRS accounts during reporting periods.
  2. Prepare and review Group financial statements to ensure IFRS compliance and reliability.
  3. Review financial statements for consistency with applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
  4. Oversee the implementation of technical accounting conclusions across business units.

Process Improvement:

  1. Enhance reporting processes and tools to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  2. Monitor adherence to accounting policies and procedures by Group entities.
  3. Develop and update templates, frameworks, and processes for consistent application of IFRS standards.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  1. Provide detailed, quantitative insights to stakeholders, including responses to investor queries.
  2. Review and coordinate external submissions, such as JSE filings and SENS announcements.
  3. Facilitate internal reporting for stakeholders, Exco, and Board members.

Compliance and Development:

  1. Implement new IFRS standards, frameworks, and disclosures.
  2. Maintain Group technical accounting frameworks and ensure alignment with industry standards.

Qualifications:

  1. Chartered Accountant (CA(SA))

Experience:

  1. 6–8 years of experience in a similar role
  2. Strong knowledge of Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and risk management principles
  3. Extensive group consolidation and reporting experience
  4. Solid technical accounting expertise
  5. Experience with IFRS consolidation systems (advantageous)
  6. Familiarity with the financial services industry and related financial systems
  7. Proficient in relevant accounting practices and office software
