Job description

Our client, a well-established and reputable company within the Clearing and Forwarding / Air Freight industry, is seeking an experienced Export Controller to join their Durban operation.

This role is suited to a highly organised individual with strong knowledge of export customs, air freight operations and documentation control, who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process export customs and air freight documentation, including House and Master Air Waybills.
• Ensure all export documentation is accurate, compliant and issued timeously.
• Manage client communication and maintain written records of all instructions.
• Send pre-alerts to international agents to prevent delays and penalties.
• Coordinate collections, deliveries, and airline cut-offs to ensure on-time shipments.
• Oversee export files, invoicing and perishables procedures.
• Ensure compliance with safety, security, and regulated agent requirements (SACAA Part 108).
• Perform weekend work when operationally required.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in exports, imports, perishables, or a similar role.
• Matric certificate or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years’ supervisory experience.
• Solid knowledge of Cargo Operations and Air Freight.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Computer literate, with experience in Excel and Shipshape.
• Code 08 driver’s licence and own transport (essential).
