A medium to heavy fabricator company based in Durban is seeking an experienced estimator to prepare detailed estimates and support documentation. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years' experience in the structural steel industry, possess strong math skills, and ideally hold a Quantity Surveying background. Key tasks include analyzing drawings and communicating effectively with contractors and engineers to ensure project specifications are met.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years' experience in estimating within structural steel.
• Ability to summarize bills of quantities from various types of drawings.

Overview

Channel Construction was founded over 20 years ago as a medium to heavy fabricator and erector of structural steel.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates and backup documentation for review.
• Meet quote submittal dates/times as requested by customers.
• Identify material and equipment needs and costs based on drawings and specifications.
• Contact suppliers and distributors to establish a reasonable estimate for materials & supplies.
• Have the ability to analyze, compare and interpret detailed drawings.
• Identify miscellaneous material pertaining to the enquiry.
• Quality - demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality.
• Extract Bill of Materials (BOQ/BOM) from drawings.
• Create detailed cutting and nesting lists.
• Communicate professionally & directly with general contractors, owners, architects and engineers.
• Plan existing and new projects using Microsoft Projects.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, understand and summarize a bill of quantities in the structural steel industry from architectural, workshop and engineering drawings.
• Possess good math skills and be good with numbers.
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience.
• Ideally have a Quantity Surveying background.
