Job summary

A leading manufacturer in glass production based in Knysna is seeking a dedicated Electrician to support maintenance on manufacturing lines. The role requires Grade 12, N3 Electrical Engineering, and a Trade Test Certificate. Candidates should possess 3 years post-apprenticeship experience, strong knowledge of electrical systems, and excellent problem-solving skills. This position emphasizes safety standards and minimizing production downtime.

Qualifications

  • 3 years post apprenticeship experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of PLCs.
  • Knowledge of HT & LT Transformers.
  • Knowledge of combustion furnaces or burners.
  • Knowledge of electropneumatics and/or hydraulics.
  • Knowledge of circuit breakers.
  • Knowledge of AC & DC Drives.
  • Knowledge of belt conveyor, Mixers and Vibrators.
  • Knowledge of Motor starters.
  • Knowledge of commissioning of electrical panel.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake routine maintenance work in accordance with planned maintenance schedules.
  • Carry out planned repairs in accordance with accepted safety standards.
  • Repair breakdowns with minimum delay.
  • Report any adverse plant conditions to the maintenance supervisor.
  • Record all work done on a daily basis in the time-record work book.
  • Liaise with the production department to ensure there are no unnecessary interruptions.
  • Perform standby duties according to the standby roster.

PFG is the leading manufacturer of float glass in Southern Africa, as well as laminated glass, mirrors, and sealant products. The company produces 260 000 tons of float glass products per annum, supplying into both domestic and international building and automotive industries.

Main job purpose

Support the manufacturing lines by carrying out maintenance work on all items of plant and equipment in the float and off‑line cutting areas, as well as plant improvements to items of plant when necessary to ensure machine availability and improve up‑time.

Main Objective
  • Undertake routine maintenance work in accordance with planned maintenance schedules; applicable work instructions; works procedures and; quality assurance plans.
  • Carry out planned repairs in accordance with accepted safety standards while maintaining the highest possible level of workmanship.
  • Repair breakdowns with minimum delay and in accordance with accepted safety standards.

  • Record all work done on a daily basis in the time-record work book.
