Reporting

REPORTING TO : ENGINEERING MANAGER

Purpose of the Job

To manage and develop all aspects of electrical services.

Key Responsibilities

Manages the Electrical & Control Support Team through the monitoring of technical aspects and equipment, budget and staff control. Liaises with ABB, Siemens, (various suppliers) with regard to the control and administration of spares and services for Variable Speed Drives, PLC's, and Electrical Switchgear. Provides technical backup to all Electrical Supervisors, Production Departments, and Area Engineers on all Electrical related problems and maintenance throughout the Mill. Liaises with Electrical & Instrumentation personnel and recommend change and / or improvements to existing installations throughout the Mill by complying with specifications and regulating equipment usage in the Mill. Liaise with Electrical & Instrumentation personnel and Stores with regards to Stores coverage of new and existing equipment. Keeps up to date with the latest development in the Instrument / Electrical field. Carries out general administrative work associated with the DCS / PLC / SCADA / drives. Liaises with vendor representatives and educational institutions with regard to advancements in technology and equipment, as well as the application and acquisition thereof, when necessary. Ensures that records, technical data books and engineering drawings pertaining to Electrical installations and equipment are kept updated. Provides technical backup for plant Instrument / Electrical Supervisor, Technicians, Mechanicians and Electricians. Recommends change to infrastructure according to the changing business and technological environment. Ensures correct maintenance is done on transformers and H.T. Switchgear by outside contractors and that records are kept up to date and correct. Supervises maintenance of H.T. power supplies and substation buildings. Liaises with Eskom regarding maintenance of supply lines and switchgear. Manages the Electrical Workshop, Boilers Electrical, Water Treatment Electrical, Services Electrical and Main 6,6kV supply Substations through the monitoring of technical aspects and equipment, budget and staff control. Liaises with Electrical Supervisors and the Commercial Department with regards to Stores coverage of new and existing equipment. Liaises with motor re-winders and ensure that repairs are carried out to acceptable standards. Performs Mill standby duties as and when required. Engineers and manages Electrical related projects, or electrical content of multi-disciplinary projects, through the monitoring, design and implementation of all technical aspects of such projects. Looks after cranes, HVAC and UPS systems. Exercises strict project budget, quality and progress control ensuring that customer requirements are met every time. Ensures that all required documentation such as drawings, manuals and software are supplied and updated. Assists with problem solving. Maintains equipment according to regulations and best practices.

Required Minimum Qualifications / Experience

• Bachelor of Engineering – (Electrical) or equivalent at NQF 8
• Government Certificate of Competency (Factory)
• Ten years' experience as an Electrical Engineer in manufacturing industry (pulp and paper experience advantageous).
• Three years' experience in managing projects
• Three years' experience in leading an engineering team
